We contribute to Paskaia

As part of our broader sustainability work, we have chosen to support Paskaia – a long-term, third-party verified project restoring forest in La Mosquitia in north-eastern Honduras, together with the Indigenous Miskito people.

Part of a broader commitment

As part of Avisera’s work on detailed climate analyses of our products, we also want to make it easier for our customers to contribute to a climate initiative with documented impact.

We contribute to the climate project Paskaia, which works on fire prevention and reforestation in La Mosquitia. The project is third-party verified under the Plan Vivo standard and delivers both climate benefits and social development for the local families taking part.

What is Paskaia?
La Mosquitia, on the Caribbean coast, is home to Honduras’ last significant area of primary forest. Over a long period, logging and recurring fires have turned large areas of Caribbean pine forest into savanna where new trees no longer have a chance to grow. Paskaia’s core idea is simple: the seedlings are already in the ground – if the fires are stopped, the forest returns on its own. Local fire brigades protect the land by putting out fires and building firebreaks, and the project also plants mahogany.

The project started in 2021, grew out of the Miskito communities themselves and is run in close cooperation with local people. Paskaia is certified under Plan Vivo (PV Climate version 4, moving to version 5), and at least 60 percent of the revenue from carbon credits goes directly to the local communities.

According to the project’s reporting, it has so far:

  • Provided paid work for more than 300 families
  • Allowed over 4 million trees to grow back
  • Placed more than 4,000 hectares under active restoration
  • Had over 194,000 carbon credits issued by Plan Vivo
  • Is expected to sequester around 400,000 tonnes of CO₂ over 20 years

We share these figures because they are publicly reported by the project and reviewed by third parties – not to take credit for the results. Our role is to support an existing initiative with documented impact.

A complementary climate initiative

It is important to stress that our contribution to Paskaia does not replace the strategic work of reducing emissions in our own products and processes. On the contrary, we see the project as an added value.

By combining data-driven insight with a verified climate project, we want to make sustainability work both clearer and more meaningful for the companies that choose to work with us.

When you buy from us, you contribute indirectly to the project’s ongoing work through the share of our revenue that goes to supporting the initiative.

Why climate projects are becoming increasingly important

With stricter sustainability reporting requirements under CSRD/ESRS, companies are expected to show both how they reduce their emissions and which external climate initiatives they support. Working with verified, long-term projects that create clear climate and social benefits is therefore becoming increasingly important.

What does the project mean for you as a customer?
When you buy from Avisera, you contribute indirectly to the project’s continued funding, as we set aside a share for Paskaia. This means every order helps support:

  • Fire prevention that allows the forest to recover naturally
  • Paid work and long-term income for local Miskito families
  • Restoration of Caribbean pine forest and degraded land
  • Greater biodiversity in Honduras’ last significant primary forest area

It is important to emphasise that this does not make our products climate neutral or carbon offset. We do not claim emission neutrality or zero impact – our contribution is exactly that, a contribution, not compensation.
